How to make App Store screenshots (step by step)

From raw capture to a store-ready set, in a handful of steps — no design tools or Mac apps required.

Step 1 — Capture clean source screens

Grab your app’s screens at full resolution with realistic, uncluttered content. Avoid debug states, lorem ipsum, and empty lists — show the app at its best, with content a real user would have.

Step 2 — Choose a layout system

Decide where the caption sits (usually above the device), your type scale, and a background treatment. Start from a template so the system is consistent across every frame, then make it yours.

Step 3 — Write benefit-first captions

Each caption should name a benefit in a few words. “Track every habit” beats “Habits screen.” Lead with your strongest feature on frame one.

Step 4 — Place the device and add depth

Drop your screen into a device frame. A subtle 3D tilt or a multi-device cluster adds polish — keep the screen content legible and the angle gentle.

Step 5 — Export the right sizes

Export pixel-exact, alpha-free sizes for every display you’re submitting. See the full App Store size reference. In Storeshot you export them all from one design at once with Pro, or one at a time for free.
